Overview
GrokEnglish provides English language courses for software developers. This policy explains what happens to your data on this website (grokenglish.dev). Course accounts live on a separate platform, which is covered in its own section below.
You can read this site without giving us anything. Measurement and session recording are switched on only if you allow them, and you can change your mind at any time.
Who is responsible
GrokEnglish is responsible for this website. For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, write to contact@grokenglish.dev.
Courses and accounts — Thinkific
Courses are hosted by Thinkific Labs Inc. (Canada). When you create an account or enrol, Thinkific collects and stores your name, email address, username and password, your enrolments and progress, and your completion records. GrokEnglish does not hold that data independently — we see it through Thinkific's administration interface in order to manage enrolments and issue certificates. Thinkific is a separate controller for your account data and has its own privacy policy, which governs it.
Some exercises inside those courses are interactive widgets served from grokenglish.dev and displayed inside the course platform. They are plain exercise pages and load no analytics, no session recording and no advertising.
Payments
Payments are handled by Thinkific's payment provider. GrokEnglish does not process, store or have access to card details at any point.
What the website itself collects
Strictly necessary
These make the site work as you asked: remembering your cookie decision, your theme, and protecting the contact form from abuse. They cannot be switched off, because without them the site could not even remember that you refused.
Usage analytics — only with your consent
Google Analytics tells us how many people visit, which countries they come from and which pages they read, so we know what to improve. Loaded through Google Tag Manager. Data is processed on Google servers outside your country.
Session recording — only with your consent
Microsoft Clarity anonymously records how you move around a page, where you click and how far you scroll, and turns that into heatmaps and replayable recordings. It is markedly more intrusive than counting visits, which is why it is a separate choice. Refuse it and nothing is recorded.
Error monitoring — always on
New Relic reports errors and page timings so we can fix what breaks. It is configured to store nothing on your device and cannot follow you between pages, so it runs on our legitimate interest in keeping the site working rather than on consent. You can object by writing to us.
Contact form
If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message, in order to reply. We do not ask for consent for this — writing to someone is not something you consent to, it is something you chose to do — and we rely on taking steps at your request and on our legitimate interest in answering. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which tells people apart from bots. We keep the correspondence for at most 2 years.
Transfers outside your country
Google, Microsoft, New Relic, Thinkific and Cloudflare process data outside the country you are reading this in, principally in the United States and Canada. Each is engaged under a data processing agreement containing standard contractual clauses.

Write to contact@grokenglish.dev. We reply within one month. There is no charge. For data held in your course account, contact Thinkific directly — we cannot act on data we do not control.
Note that for website measurement we hold no identifier that links a visit to you, so in most cases we cannot find "your" analytics data from an email address alone. Where that is so, we will say so rather than guess.

Children
The courses are aimed at working adults. We do not knowingly collect data about children. If you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If our processing changes we will update this policy before the change takes effect and update the date above. Where a change touches a purpose that needs consent, we will ask again.
