A cookie is a small file a site leaves in your browser. Everything this site sets is listed below, with what it is for and how long it lasts.
If you allow nothing, only the strictly necessary items are set — the record of your own decision, your theme preference, and the protection on the contact form. Nothing else.
Strictly necessary
These make the site work as you asked: remembering your cookie decision, your theme, and protecting the contact form from abuse. They cannot be switched off, because without them the site could not even remember that you refused.

|---|---|---|---|
ge_consent | grokenglish.dev | Strictly necessary | 6m |

Usage analytics — only with your consent
Google Analytics tells us how many people visit, which countries they come from and which pages they read, so we know what to improve. Loaded through Google Tag Manager. Data is processed on Google servers outside your country.

Session recording — only with your consent
Microsoft Clarity anonymously records how you move around a page, where you click and how far you scroll, and turns that into heatmaps and replayable recordings. It is markedly more intrusive than counting visits, which is why it is a separate choice. Refuse it and nothing is recorded.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Session recording | 1y |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Session recording | 1d |
Error monitoring — always on
New Relic reports errors and page timings so we can fix what breaks. It is configured to store nothing on your device and cannot follow you between pages, so it runs on our legitimate interest in keeping the site working rather than on consent. You can object by writing to us.
What we do not use
- No advertising or remarketing pixels.
- No embedded third-party content — no social buttons or trackers loading from other sites.
- Fonts, jQuery and the consent library itself are served from grokenglish.dev rather than a content delivery network, because a CDN request discloses your IP address to a third party before you have agreed to anything.
Changing or withdrawing your consent
There is a Cookie preferences button in the footer of every page. It reopens the same window you saw on your first visit, with each purpose separately. Withdrawing is as easy as consenting and does not limit access to any content. If you delete the consent cookie, we will ask again on your next visit.
